The main Musicpainter screen on Sugar OS

Touch and drag an instrument onto your palette, elements lit up to alert the user

A slightly earlier version of the interface, mostly just a cool airplane
Summary
MusicPainter is an app for the One Laptop per Child XO-Duo touch screen computer. It runs on Sugar OS, and allows children (or grown ups) to create pictures out of sound - or vice versa.
MusicPainter is one of many apps that One Education helped bring to life over an extremely short timeline. Initially developed for Windows - illustrated below - MusicPainter's look and feel did not naturally fit Sugar OS, and it was extremely clumsy to use with touch.

As part of an internal program to improve the usability of and generally beautify many of the apps for Sugar OS, I worked with the developer to implement the interface shown at the top of the page. This interface needed to have a strong emphasis on being understood without text, being usable with touch, and fun for kids to play with.
